I’ve become a big fan of this series rather quickly! I love a good MC book and I can say that I’ve fallen in love with Esther's storytelling.
Depay and Diamond (AKA Nika, Veronika) are returning characters from the other books in the series. Depay is a tough inside and out. However, he does have a soft spot. Especially for his little girl Hadley. She’s a unique and special little girl that has popped into his life when he least expected any changes happening. Everything he does is for her, including putting his love life on hold. He’s a devoted man in general. Honestly, I fell in love with him myself!
Diamond grew up in the Russian Mob, the daughter of a mob boss who has been sheltered most of her life. She’s used to be treated like a doll or fragile ornament. She is anything but that! She’s ready to take her life to another level and works hard at her passion of artistic creation. Now that her father is passing on his position as boss to someone else, she feels free to change things up. She’s such a strong character that you can’t help but feel a connection with her.
Then they meet, and everything changes quickly. Their connection is instant and HOT! Not just because Depay is a firefighter either! He’s been trained to protect and save lives. To run into burning buildings to do so. She believes in love and creating a life for yourself, to following your dreams. When they come back to each other, will their attraction fuel the fires or burn them out completely?
Outside of their little happiness bubble, tragedy strikes left and right. They have to figure out how to stay one step ahead of everything while protecting the lives they’ve pledged to take care of. But the saying goes….when there is smoke….there is fire!
The twists and turns in this book were quick, intriguing and fantastic! For two characters who are in many ways opposites, Esther was able to bring them together in a way that has you on an emotional rollercoaster! I ADORED this whole book!!! Seriously, if you haven’t already read the other books by Esther, go get them all! You’ll end up like me and binge reading most of her books in a 7 day period. Yes, I really did! This is very much a five-star worthy read!
